Christine Cummingson's Pigs

'Christine trained in ceramics at Lancashire Polytechnic and her final show consisted purely of pig studies. The response from visitors was enthusiastic and all her work sold.

At first she thought that this was the beginning of a whole new world of sculptural beasts, however, several years on, she is still captivated solely by pigs.

She has found plenty of source material in rare breeds, and finds it much more satisfying to capture "warts and all"ness of a big floppy sow, than the cutness of a piglet.
Pigs
The pigs are made in a mixture of crank bodied and stoneware clays. Raku and smokefiring finishes complement the final pieces, measuring from 5" (very small) through 8-10" (small) and 14" (medium).

The spotted pig is a Gloucester Old Spot, the banded pig, a Saddleback, the black, a Berkshire, and the smokey brown a special.
